Outside Van was founded in 2007,  and acquired by FOX Factory, helping to further elevate the brand as a van conversion leader. For this project, they collaborated with several reputable outfits to help make Slim Chance a super high-caliber and functional vehicle. Starting with a 2023 Mercedes Benz All-Wheel Drive 144 Sprinter, Outside Van went directly to Agile Off-Road out of California. A brand-new RIP (Ride Improvement Package) Kit suspension upgrade featuring Fox Shocks got the vehicle dialed in specifically for the increased weight of the conversion and the performance characteristics of the new All-Wheel Drive system.

Rolling on BFGoodrich ALL-TERRAIN T/A KO2 tires and Black Rhino Atlas Wheels, Slim Chance was then taken out to the formidable washouts of the Southern California desert and thoroughly tested for off-road performance. Another essential component of the build was the series of Rigid Industries lighting products that will ensure the activities of an outdoor adventure lifestyle stay lit 24/7.

Slim Chance Lives To Support The Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle

No matter if you are into kite surfing, wakeboarding, mountain biking, surfing, skiing, fishing, hiking, or whatever else, if you had an Outdoor Van conversion like Slim Chance, it would be safe to say your life would be way more active and way more rad.

Outdoor Van packed so much gear and storage, there was not really enough room for the traditional van conversion sofa lounge-bed setup. Instead, they opted for a fold-down murphy bed and gear wall. Since Slim Chance’s primary function is to be a support vehicle for gear-heavy extreme water sports, modular storage is a necessity that could not be compromised. Using a combination of strategically placed L-Track and MOLLE Panels, the gear wall can be configured for a variety of mounting options to store gear.

Complimenting the gear wall is Outside Van’s gear glider, which is mounted to the floor and can be slid out for easy access to stored items. It features L-Track mounting points, tie-down points, and a drain to accommodate wet items. There is also a Yakima Skybox 12 mounted on the roof rack. MOLLE Panels have been mounted throughout the van and provide a truly personalized modular storage experience only limited to the imagination. The gear wall can be unlatched and folded down to reveal a bed platform. Utilizing a murphy bed style system allows Slim Chance to maximize usable storage space without compromising on features that are essential to all Adventure Van conversions.

Slim Chance Can Survive Off-Grid Unplugged Or Stay Connected

Slim Chance features a best-in-class power system centered around a 960 Amp-Hour Lithium Battery Power system which has several ways to be charged. When on-grid, Slim Chance can be plugged directly into shore power, but when off-grid, the batteries can be charged either by a secondary alternator or a 140-Watt solar panel mounted on the roof. The system powers the outlets, along with all components such as the premium JL-Audio sound system, air compressor, Milwaukee Tool Packout tools, as well as the Starlink. The system also powers the Rigid Industries external light package which includes a 50″ light bar, SAE fog lights, 360 Series fog lights, side scene lights, and dual radiance pro backlights.

Slim Chance features a Dual Galley System which is compromised of two bamboo islands. They can be bridged together via a folding panel that creates an expansive kitchen space. The galley features a stainless-steel sink that draws filtered hot or cold water from the 24-gallon freshwater tank. Also, a microwave, refrigerator, and induction cooktop are all essentially placed. The driver-side island features massive storage drawers that can accommodate a plethora of pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery. On the passenger-side island, a fold-out external work table and a hidden spice cubby were added. The external work table combined with the connectivity of the Starlink is an optimal space for digital nomads who want to work off-grid while utilizing their breaks to hit the river for a quick ride.
