It’s official, you can now join the Range Rover Electric wait list. This is ahead of formal orders for the luxury vehicle. Range Rover says this all-electric model is the most anticipated Range Rover vehicle of recent times. Along with this news, the company released some teaser images of the vehicle.
Built in the UK on the Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture
The Electric is built on the flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture. It will be assembled alongside existing mild- and extended-range plug-in electric hybrid Range Rover vehicles. Specifically, this will happen at the brand’s new underbody facility in Solihull, United Kingdom. The vehicle’s batteries and electric drive units will be assembled at the company’s new Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Center in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. The SUV will use 800V architecture. One of the benefits of this is rapid charging on public networks. The company says that the SUV will be the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever. It will include a unique active road noise cancellation configuration and sound design plus cabin comfort levels enabled by its electric underpinnings. Also, there’s so much new on the new Electric that the company says its it anticipates more patents being filed for the vehicle than any other Range Rover before.
From Virtual Development to On-Road Testing
One of the Range Rover’s legendary features is its ability to combine luxury and off-road capability. The company is carrying those attributes into the Electric. The new vehicle has spent a year in virtual development. This spanned things like front-end robustness, multi-body systems analysis, and virtual wading in water at up to 31 mph. The first physical vehicles have been built and global on-road testing has started. This testing is taking place from Sweden to Dubai, in temperatures ranging from -40 F to 122 F. This testing program ensures the robustness of several areas of the vehicle. This includes the electric drive system, including its underfloor, battery durability, chassis integrity, and vehicle dynamics tests for thermal derating. Furthermore, Range Rover says that new Electric prototypes are being subjected to the most rigorous engineering sign-off programs ever.
Performance, Off-Road, and Seamless Electric Ownership Experience
The company says the new Electric will deliver performance comparable to a flagship Range Rover V-8, including towing capability. Consequently, it will also include the all-terrain capability developed in-house by Land Rover experts. This includes the ability to wade through up to 33.4 inches of water. Of course, the new Electric will offer the luxury one would expect from a Range Rover. Additionally, the Range Rover brand will ensure a seamless electric ownership experience. This includes effortless charging, energy partnerships, software-over-the-air updates, and range-maximizing intelligent technology.
Range Rover is in High Demand
The new Electric is coming online at a time when the brand is enjoying record demand. “Since going on sale in 2021 the latest generation Range Rover has set a new benchmark for desirability. Across the globe, we’re seeing the highest levels of client demand in our 53-year history. Because of this unprecedented success story, we’re now opening the official waiting list for the opportunity to be among the first to place a pre-order for the most anticipated Range Rover vehicle of recent times. Marking a new era for the Range Rover brand: the original luxury SUV is now available as an all-electric model,” says Geraldine Ingham, Managing Director, Range Rover.
The Electric is the Quietest and Most Refined Range Rover Ever
Finally, Thomas Muller, Executive Director, Product Engineering, JLR, says, “We are on target to create the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created. The magic ingredients that underpin the success of Range Rover remain unchanged: timeless, reductionist design, a serene cabin and capability – but now offered with zero tailpipe emissions. And as repeated throughout history, the Range Rover will continue to set the standard. The first of its type. An electric luxury SUV that can deliver on the Range Rover promise. A true global luxury product, as yet unseen in the industry. Created in the heart of the United Kingdom, the Range Rover Electric will slot into the range alongside its mild hybrid [MHEV] and plug-in electric hybrid [PHEV] siblings, offering a breadth of options to meet our clients’ needs.”
